ICI El Dorado Staff - Adopt-A-Class

What do a handful of ICI employees and the El Dorado High School graduating class of 2020 have in common? A lot, it would seem, if you were to visit Jefferson Elementray in El Dorado on a Friday afternoon! If you did, you might catch Stacey Van Buren helping the students build shapes out of straws and twist ties, or Jolene Erpelding helping a child launch an interactive computer program, or Staci McCune helping a student learn to add and subtract multi digit numbers.

Several El Dorado ICI employees volunteer to particapte in a program called Adopt-A-Class, which is part of a visionary endeavor called Vision 2020. The idea behind Vision 2020 is that every El Dorado kindergarten class beginning in 2008 will be matched with a group of local volunteers. ICI volunteers visit their class on a regular basis at the school, and will continue until their high school career is complete in 2020, offering guidance, mentoring, and some tutoring along the way.

"Adopt-A-Class has been such a fun and rewarding experience. I have been a part of this program since it started and I can honestly say that I enjoy it more and more each year." says ICI employee Stacey Van Buren. "Every time we walk into the classroom their little faces light up and they are so excited to see us...that is when you know that you are truly making a difference in their lives! I look forward to the upcoming years, to watch them learn and grow into young adults!"
