Answer to Blue Sky Trivia

Q. Where do we get the term “blue ribbon”?

A. Blue ribbon is the Americanized version of The Blue Riband, a prize awarded in the 1860’s for the fastest crossing of the Atlantic Ocean by passenger liners — and prior to that from the French Cordon Bleu, which referred to the blue ribbon worn by a particular order of knights.
